MegèveOff-piste

Off-piste in Megève.

An outing with an instructor who reads the day's snow, from level 4 or Ski d'or. Safety kit provided, five people at most.

See availability

The snow sets the programme.

The instructor picks the route on the morning itself, from the snow that has fallen, the wind and the day's risk. That is the difference between a fine outing and a bad idea.

You ski with the safety kit the school provides, transceiver, shovel, probe and airbag pack, and the outing starts by checking the transceivers.

  • Five people at most.

A short group, because the instructor has to see each of you on a slope nobody has tracked.

  • Level 4 or Ski d'or.

You need to hold a red run in any snow. It is not about perfect technique, it is about being at ease.

  • Safety kit provided.

Transceiver, shovel, probe and airbag pack for each of you. You bring your skis and your lift pass.

Half a day or a full day, up to five people.

Private lessons

The terrain is picked in the morning.

The instructor decides the route from the snow and the risk of the day, and tells you at the start. Half a day is enough for a first time.

  • What is included

The instructor, the transceiver, the shovel, the probe and the airbag pack. A route chosen from the day's snow.

  • What to bring

Your skis, your lift pass, a helmet and something to drink. Wide skis are more comfortable, and you can rent them at Rentals in your resort.

  • If you have to cancel

What level do I need?

Level 4 or Ski d'or: at ease on a red run, in any snow. The instructor checks on the first few descents.

Is the safety kit provided?

Yes, a transceiver, shovel, probe and airbag pack each. The instructor checks the devices before setting off.

How many people?

Five at most as a private lesson. The Steep & Deep group goes out with four at most.

What if the avalanche risk is high?

The instructor picks other terrain, or moves the outing. It is their call, on the morning itself.

Do we have to walk up?

Not necessarily. Most outings start from the lifts. A short walk sometimes opens a better slope, and the instructor says so in advance.

Is it doable for a first time?

Yes, as a private lesson, over half a day and on terrain chosen for it.
