You ski with the safety kit the school provides, transceiver, shovel, probe and airbag pack, and the outing starts by checking the transceivers.

Our discovery sessions give you a taste of untouched terrain while you while learning how to ride safely and in control. Already experienced in deep powder? Switch on your avalanche transceiver, choose your summit and join us.
Safety is a priority.
We don’t take safety lightly. The proof: when you book an off-piste course or guided itinerary with us, we provide you free of charge with a helmet, back protection, avalanche transceiver, shovel (stainless steel), probe (metal) and ABS airbag. FANCY OFF-PISTE GUIDING IN a group?
Fancy heading off-piste while enjoying the energy of a group? At Oxygène, depending on your level, you can join our off-piste discovery or Steep&Deep sessions. These are limited to just 6 participants and led by an Oxygène instructor who knows the resort like the back of their hand. Come and share an off-the-beaten-track adventure, build your skills and deepen your off-piste knowledge alongside others. The more, the merrier!

Choosing your outing.
There are a few different ways you can explore beyond the pistes: for example, by booking a private instructor, or by joining a Steep & Deep group where available. Not sure of your level? Take the level test.

As a private lesson
Half a day or a full day, up to five people.
The terrain is chosen on the day.
Your instructor will select the most suitable route based on the snow conditions and avalanche risk, and talk you through the plan before you set off. For your first off-piste experience, a half day is usually plenty.

What is included
Your instructor, avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe and airbag backpack. The route is chosen on the day according to the snow conditions.
What to bring
Your skis, lift pass, helmet and something to drink. Wider skis are usually more comfortable off-piste and can be hired from the rental shop in your resort.
What level do I need?
Level 4 or Ski d'or: at ease on a red run, in any snow. The instructor checks on the first few descents.
Is the safety kit provided?
Yes, a transceiver, shovel, probe and airbag pack each. The instructor checks the devices before setting off.
How many people?
Five at most as a private lesson. The Steep & Deep group goes out with four at most.
What if the avalanche risk is high?
The instructor picks other terrain, or moves the outing. It is their call, on the morning itself.
Do we have to walk up?
Not necessarily. Most outings start from the lifts. A short walk sometimes opens a better slope, and the instructor says so in advance.
Is it doable for a first time?
Yes, as a private lesson, over half a day and on terrain chosen for it.
