Ski Instructor Training in France, Step by Step

Working with OxySki means taking charge of your skis and your career at the same time. You join a close-knit team and feel at home in your boots from your very first lesson. Behind that feeling sits a real training path, built step by step and season after season, all the way to the instructor diploma.

The Ski Academy

The Ski Academy is OxySki’s training hub for motivated trainees. It has been running since 2016, with one goal: guide candidates towards their instructor diploma, then bring them into the teaching teams to start a career with an OxySki ski school in the Alps.

The programme focuses on building technical skills, physical and mental preparation, and giving trainees the independence and versatility they’ll need for the rest of their career, on the slopes and off them.

Training is tailor made: accommodation in resort, kit, a lift pass and professional insurance are all covered. It puts every trainee in the best position to succeed. Once they join the teams, they start teaching while carrying on training for their exams. Teaching is also how they fund their training, right through to the final diploma.

Chloé Périgeat’s story

Chloé joined the La Plagne team last winter. She talks us through her season leading a Ski Academy group, getting them ready for the technical entrance test for the ski and snowboard instructor qualification.

“Arriving in La Plagne, I found a very different spirit. I’d worked with ESF before, and I wanted to see what else was out there. Working alongside instructors trained in other countries is really enriching, it builds real bonds. Every instructor here has a genuine passion for the job, and I loved that atmosphere. I got to bring my own approach to training, mixing what I wanted to do with my own passion for skiing.”

OxySki trusted Chloé with the role quickly. When she applied to become an instructor, she mentioned her past experience in high level alpine skiing on the FIS circuit (the international ski federation circuit). The director in La Plagne called her not long after and brought her into the Ski Academy coaching team.

“Having OxySki’s full trust to lead this training was a real challenge, and a sign of confidence from my managers that I’m grateful for. I was free to build the programme the way I wanted. We did good work over the winter, with big technical progress for most of the group, and one of my trainees passed their technical test.”

“I didn’t expect a role like this so soon after arriving, and I didn’t really know what I was getting into. But I don’t regret a thing, and I can’t wait to start again next season.”
