Snowkiting

Snowkiting.

Let the wind be your lift.

Choose your resort

The activity.

A traction kite in the sky, skis or a board on your feet, and the wind does the rest: you climb slopes without a chairlift, cross plateaus, jump when you like. Snowkiting is kitesurfing on snow.

At the Col du Lautaret the playground is huge and the wind reliable. The instructor teaches kite control on the ground, then the first glides. The two-day escapade climbs all the way to the Galibier hut.

  • From Bronze level.

Confident skiers or snowboarders, from 12.

  • A three-hour lesson, or two days.

The lesson at the Col du Lautaret, the escapade up to the Galibier hut.

  • Kite and harness provided.

Your skis or board, a helmet, and windproof clothing.

The format and the length vary by resort: they are chosen at booking.

Snowkiting

How it goes.

A small group, an instructor, and how a typical outing unfolds.

  1. The kite on the ground

You learn to fly the kite without skis: the wind window, the power, the emergency stop.

  2. First glides

Skis on, on the flat, the kite pulls you. The first metres, then the first turns.

  3. The plateau

You climb a slope with the wind, ski it down, and again. You are the lift.

Good to know.
