We start by playing.

Before learning to ski, children first discover the snow. Lessons take place in our snowgarden, a safe, enclosed area beside the slopes with its own magic carpet. Learning starts through play: before they know it, children are making their first snowplough turns as they follow the course.

No lift pass is needed on the first day. Your instructor will let you know what is required for the following days. At the end of the course, your child will receive a medal and progress booklet, just like the older children.

  • Small group sizes.

Snow Bears lessons are taught in small groups, giving the instructor plenty of time and attention for each child.

  • A snowgarden just for them.

Everything takes place in the snowgarden, using the magic carpet.

  • Bilingual instructors.

French and English are spoken in every resort, and often a third language too. When children understand what is being asked of them, they feel more confident giving it a go.

In La Tania: mornings or afternoon lessons are available depending on the season. Your weekly schedule is confirmed when you book.

Choosing the right lesson.

At this age, there is one ski level and one snowboard level. If your child already has some experience, the instructor will assess them during the first session and recommend moving up a level if appropriate. Not sure which level to choose? Take the level test.

Private lesson

Ski or snowboard lessons are available from age 3.

Private lessons

An instructor just for them.

An hour is often plenty for young children, whose attention spans are naturally shorter. It’s also the only option for children under three, and a reassuring choice for those who prefer to keep a parent close by.

  • The meeting point

Directions

  • What is included

The lesson, the medal and the Oxypass progression booklet on the last day.

  • What to bring

A helmet, gloves, goggles and sun cream. No lift pass for Petit Ours (on the first day, speak to the instructor afterwards) and warm clothes.

From what age?

From 3 in a group lesson, from 2 in a private lesson. Some resorts start groups at 4/5 years old too. Please double check with your chosen ski school!

Do I have to stay with them?

No. You drop your child off at the meeting point and collect them from the same place after the lesson. The first few minutes are often easier when parents are out of sight.

What if they cry?

The instructor will take care of it — this is very common on the first morning. If a child is still unhappy or reluctant to take part, the instructor will let you know and we can look at a different option, usually a private lesson.

Is a lift pass needed?

No lift pass is needed in the snowgarden. A pass will be required when your child moves up to the next level.

What equipment is needed?

Skis and boots in the right size, plus a helmet. You can hire everything from the rental shop in your resort, with equipment fitted on site.

What language is the lesson in?

French and English are spoken in every resort, with Dutch, Italian or Spanish also available in selected resorts. Let us know your preferred language when you book.
